Reaching, and Exceeding, Goals Even When Life Totally Sucks
January 12, 2021
When I started the year, I set an ambitious goal of doing six conferences and having four media appearances. I really wanted this to be the year where I shared my passion for emerging technology more broadly, by improving my writing and speaking skills.
And then, COVID hit. Over a few March weeks, I saw all my booked conferences evaporate. I was frustrated and disappointed.
But things started to change slowly. And then quickly.
Conferences were replaced by less time-consuming webinars, allowing me to reach more audiences than I could in an in-person world.
Journalists were anxious to write about our new remote-working life, and I was asked to share insights more frequently on things like cloud computing, AI, IoT, and Quantum Computing.
And the tedium of stay-at-home-life made me crave creativity. I became deliberate in carving out time to write for my blog.
All in all, I spoke to eleven groups, had over twenty media appearances, and published fifty-two blog articles.
2020 still totally sucked, but right now, I am going to celebrate the small wins.
Looking forward to 2021. Stay healthy and sane, my friends…
